Children and Families Legal Assistance Forum

The CAFLAF is a specialist forum established as a sub-committee of QLAF. The aim of the forum is to encourage cooperation and collaboration between legal assistance service providers working with families and children and to promote good practice across legal assistance services in the delivery of legal and related services to families and children.

Who participates in this group?

A steering committee guides the work of the CAFLAF, consisting of representatives from the following QLAF member organisations:

 

Terms of Reference

  • To promote cooperation and collaboration between legal assistance service providers working with families and children
  • To promote good practice across legal assistance services in the delivery of legal and related services to families and children
  • To advise the Queensland Legal Assistance Forum (QLAF) on issues relevant to provision of legal services to families and children
  • To lead discussions around systemic change and advocacy between legal assistance service providers working with families and children
  • A steering committee will be established to guide the work of the Legal Assistance Forum (LAF) and will include representatives from :
    • Legal Aid Queensland
    • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service (ATSILS)
    • Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service (QIFVLS)
    • Community Legal Centres
    • Department of Justice
    • Queensland Association Independent Legal Services (QAILS)
  • The LAF will meet at least twice a year. LAQ will chair and provide secretariat support to the LAF. LAQ will support the attendance of regional service providers as required through the provision of travel costs.
